Sixt, Germany’s largest vehicle rental company and one of the world’s leading providers of high-quality mobility services, has chosen to take advantage of Retarus’ high-performance premium SMS services. The Retarus Mail2SMS and Retarus SMS for Applications services now form the core of Sixt AG’s electronic customer communication infrastructure and serve to provide Sixt’s customers with all the information they need, including reservations and booking confirmations, on their cell phones. Thousands of SMS are sent every month from the Sixt online reservation system and call center to all cellular network operators using the Retarus premium SMS services. Retarus’ data centers are capable of meeting any requirements at any time, as evidenced by the DriveNow car-sharing service, which has been initiated as a joint-venture by Sixt and BMW. The introduction of this joint venture has entailed a major rise in the number of SMS being sent. Customers who reserve a vehicle using the DriveNow service receive an SMS to let them know where their vehicle is located and then another one containing an activation code that allows them to unlock and start the vehicle. Changing requirements and growing numbers of SMS can be implemented at short notice and easily handled in an almost infinitely scalable way. This allows the DriveNow service to be managed with minimum effort and a transparent, performance-based cost structure. Another benefit is the fact that no internal resources are required for the communication infrastructure, maintenance or software.

Faxolution for Exchange provides Austrian Post with a highly professional cloud fax service that’s fully integrated within the Microsoft Exchange environment. Retarus expands Managed E-Mail Services

Retarus has added two new core features called Data Leakage Prevention & E-Mail Size Reduction to its Managed E-Mail Services, which are tailored to the current needs of businesses and underline Retarus’ high level of innovation and competitive edge. The Data Leakage Prevention feature safeguards confidential corporate data sent by email by only allowing users to send emails when a monitoring feature such as a shared mailbox is added to the distribution list. This mailbox can then be randomly inspected or emails can be checked if deemed suspicious. The Retarus E-Mail Size Reduction feature reduces the size of inbound emails by up to 30%. Here attachments can be compressed into ZIP files, while superfluous parts of the email header and alternative email bodies are purged without any loss of information for the recipient. High email efficiency and compliance demands

Retarus conducted a survey at this year’s it-sa IT security trade fair in Nuremberg, asking 362 security managers for their opinion on what companies expect from their email solutions and service providers nowadays. While effective spam and malware protection is considered a basic requirement for managed email service providers, the subject of Compliance is currently topping the list of key criteria. Businesses are subject to a wide range of different guidelines, legislation and other legal requirements, which can entail severe consequences in the event of non-compliance. In light of this, 84% of those surveyed would like to have email solutions that meet both statutory and internal compliance guidelines as well as email policies. 75% of those responsible for their company’s email correspondence have very clear demands when it comes to email solutions: Data leakage prevention solutions are considered a top priority, as they represent a simple yet effective way of preventing confidential data from leaving the company via email. The experts surveyed also set great store on the development of additional features that make it faster and easier to manage business email traffic. One such example is the E-Mail Size Reduction feature which reduces the size of emails, saves on costly memory capacity, and leads to emails being displayed more clearly in the email client.

No emails during off-hours: Retarus launches Quiet Time

A survey carried out by Retarus confirms that one in three employees considers email availability outside of regular working hours to be a stress factor. However, mobile devices such as Blackberrys, Smartphones or Tablet PCs ensure we are constantly online, meaning that we are always in a position to receive emails. For this reason, Volkswagen AG agreed in December 2011 to prohibit sending emails to their employees’ mobile devices outside of core working hours. Quiet Time, a new Retarus Managed E-Mail Services feature, allows our customers to define time periods, such as evenings and weekends, during which external emails will not be sent to their employees. After activating the Quiet Time function, inbound emails are stored in the Retarus data centers and automatically delivered to the intended end device once the retention period has elapsed. This is a really simple way of complying with corporate email policies and works agreements such as those in force at Volkswagen AG. Quiet Time periods can be defined for individual recipients or groups of recipients, ensuring that support staff, for example, still remains available 24 hours a day. Berlin-based Lieferheld GmbH is well on the way to establishing itself among the leading German online portals for food delivery services. The company is being supported in its business by Retarus Faxolution for Applications. The business model is simple - if you feel like a warm meal but don't fancy cooking, you simply enter your address at “Lieferheld.de” and you can immediately see which restaurants near you offer a delivery service. One click on the restaurant of your choice forwards you to the menu, where you can order a dish with the click of a mouse. You can then choose to pay the bill in cash or electronically by credit card, bank transfer or PayPal. In an effort to make this process as simple as possible, a complex IT infrastructure is required. The Lieferheld database encompasses more than 5,200 delivery services in over 1,000 German towns. Every order received is automatically forwarded to Retarus from the Lieferheld GmbH’s SalesForce CRM platform. Retarus Faxolution for Applications then sends a fax with all the relevant information to the corresponding delivery service. As the successful transmission of the fax is confirmed, feedback is sent to the SalesForce system, which then sends the customer an SMS or email confirmation. Retarus took over the fax service for Lieferheld in July 2011, as the fax performance offered by the previous service provider was no longer effective enough and often resulted in transmission errors. Currently, Retarus sends several tens of thousands of faxes for Lieferheld every month, complete with a comprehensive monitoring system and transparent billing model.

Making work easier: the new Attachment Blocker

Retarus Managed E-Mail Services' new Attachment Blocker ensures problem-free management of email policies. With the Blocker it is a simple matter to determine which file attachments are to be forwarded to email recipients and which are not. On request, the administrator and the recipient can be notified about unwanted and/or blocked attachments. The email in question, including the file attachment, can be routed to a centralized control center or else placed in quarantine. Retarus takes charge of EDI services for Vacuumschmelze

VACUUMSCHMELZE GmbH & Co. KG, known as VAC for short, now benefits from Retarus’ EDI services after choosing to change provider. VAC's product portfolio comprises a wide range of high-grade magnetic and physical semi-finished products and parts, inductive components for electronic applications, magnets and magnetic systems for use in many different branches of industry, including watch and clock-making, medical engineering, renewable energy, shipbuilding, installation technology, and the automotive and aerospace industries. For these sectors on-time delivery is of critical importance, as is transaction-secure communication with freight forwarders. The change of providers was carefully coordinated in two stages. Firstly, a leading logistics service provider based in southern Germany had to be integrated. VAC required a speedy, tailormade solution that would enable it to communicate the freight forwarding jobs to Retarus by way of a secure VPN connection. From there the jobs would be transferred directly to the freight forwarder's system by Managed File Transfer without being converted. This necessitated linking up the existing SAP ERP system to the electronic data interchange (EDI). The second stage was the changeover of VAC's entire EDI operations to Retarus Managed EDI Services. Beginning with new customers, all existing EDI connections were transferred within a short space of time. For VAC, this change of provider has certainly been a success story. Whereas at first the sole objective was to find a speedy solution for data interchange with a freight forwarder, it very soon became clear that the best policy would be to entrust the remaining EDI services to Retarus as well.
