Faxes have more relevance than e-mail in legal terms
Faxes continue to play an important role in document correspondence. Users appreciate, in particular, the legal weight they carry in comparison to e-mail. However, faxes can also be manipulated without much effort if they are sent between two computers, for example, between fax servers. In case of dispute, it can often not be proven beyond the shadow of a doubt exactly what content was sent. For companies who receive a large sum of faxes with legal significance, it is thus important to protect the incoming content of faxes.
Signatures protect electronic documents
As the leading fax service provider, Retarus provides ideal solutions for making telefax a secure and trustworthy medium even in cases of dispute. Retarus has solved this problem with the new SAAS solution, Digital Signature for Inbound Fax. The authenticity of a document can be legally verified by a qualified electronic signature.
Here's how the solution works
Digital Signature for Inbound Fax is a fax service (Fax as a Service) based on the principle of having information certified by an independent third-party. The incoming fax passes through Retarus' secure fax infrastructure, is then converted to PDF format, digitally signed and sent to its final destination. The signature is directly integrated into the PDF file, where each recipient can check the electronic signature, for example, using Acrobat Reader.
This verifies the content of the received fax with absolute certainty given that with a signature, any manipulation to an inbound fax would be immediately detected.
If necessary, incoming faxes can also be temporarily stored by Retarus in an archive that users can access online with a secure web application.
