Companies running email security operations in complex environments are acutely aware of the daily challenges – carefully maintaining configurations, ensuring lists are kept up to date, and reliably implementing security policies.

This is where the new Configuration API included in Retarus Email Security comes into play. The new API enables administrators to manage key configurations and easily integrate them into existing workflows.

The new Configuration API enables administrators to conveniently manage allowlist and blocklist entries via a REST interface. In this way, the IT team can centrally oversee security-related lists and carry out changes in a controlled and, crucially, automated manner. The aim is clear – less manual work, greater consistency, and better integration into the company’s process landscape and existing systems.

The first version of the API already supports the creation, updating, and deletion of list entries related to several of Retarus’ security layers. These include AntiSpam, phishing detection, CxO Fraud Protection, as well as URL rewriting and Time-of-Click Protection. The API is authenticated using the well-established OAuth2 standard. Going forward, the interface will continuously be extended to include even more configuration options.

The Configuration API has been engineered to seamlessly integrate into existing automation and security processes, along with their respective applications. Typical use cases include managing and maintaining lists from SIEM, SOAR, or ticketing systems, as well as synchronizing enterprise-wide security policies across multiple clients, domains, profiles, or users. Of course, the integration of AI development tools (buzzword: MCP) has also been taken into account.

In this way, Retarus is supplementing the existing configuration options in the myEAS portal with additional options for administrators. The launch represents an important step toward greater efficiency and consistency and is particularly beneficial in situations where teams have clearly defined security processes, multiple environments need to be operated in parallel, or automation chains are highly complex.

Bear in mind that our Configuration API is not a standalone add-on tool, but an integral component aimed at boosting efficiency in email security management. The full OpenAPI specifications – including operations, parameters, request and response schemata, plus examples – are available via the developer documentation at docs.retarus.com and our API platform at https://developers.retarus.com.

Companies running email security operations in complex environments are acutely aware of the daily challenges – carefully maintaining configurations, ensuring lists are kept up to date, and reliably implementing security policies.
