It uses a dedicated 10-digit local telephone number allocated within the North American Numbering Plan (NANP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generic or alphanumeric sender IDs are not allowed for registration. The sender has to choose either to register a 10DLC number or use a dedicated short code (recommended for high volume traffic such as is the case with marketing campaigns).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-10dlc-and-sms-a-new-sanctioned-solution-for-businesses-sending-a2p-messages\">10DLC and SMS: A new sanctioned solution for businesses sending A2P messages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A 10DLC number is a US-specific, carrier-sanctioned, 10-digit phone number for business messaging which is considered an approved A2P long code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10DLC is great for use cases that do not require very high throughput, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Two-factor authentication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Appointment reminders<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Airline-related updates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rideshare updates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Every major US carrier&nbsp;including&nbsp;Verizon, AT&amp;T, T-Mobile,&nbsp;and Sprint offer&nbsp;carrier-supported&nbsp;A2P 10DLC.&nbsp;Once the transition period of 10DLC registration is over, traffic sent on legacy long codes and shared short codes will get blocked, even penalized.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Retarus&nbsp;strongly&nbsp;advises companies that are using legacy long codes or shared short codes to&nbsp;switch to 10DLCs&nbsp;as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you need 10DLC for sending SMS messages to customers in the US?
