Retarus Email Security beefs up its Advanced Threat Protection

With the sandboxing function, potentially malicious attachments are executed in a virtual, isolated environment and examined for irregular behavior. The innovative sandboxing technology employed by Retarus Email Security uses cutting-edge machine learning, neural networks and behavioral analytics to detect complex zero-day threats and novel malware variants even more reliably. Attachments subjected to sandboxing may include Office, HTML, and compressed files. In addition, our customers continue to benefit from the knowledge gathered by a global, external threat intelligence network, without sharing any of their own data with third parties.

When malware is detected, indicators of compromise (IOCs) and comprehensive reporting provide customers with detailed forensic information about the attack vector and the methods employed by the cybercriminals. As with all of Retarus’ Email Security services, the processing of data during sandboxing is always carried out in full compliance with the GDPR in ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certified data centers located in Europe. All data is transmitted in encrypted form and deleted immediately once the file has been examined in the sandbox environment.

A highly targeted approach to safeguarding against spam and phishing attacks

On top of this, Retarus will also augment the detection mechanisms used to identify spam and phishing by offering all Advanced Threat Protection customers an additional anti-spam engine based on numerous filters and algorithms which are continuously updated by way of cloud databases. The new Retarus AntiSpam Management option will work independently of the language and detect dangerous links even if they are hidden in QR codes. In addition, logos and other image files will be checked, so that phishing attempts can be identified early on. Text recognition within attached files such as PDF documents or HTML forms will also be improved once again, as has the analysis of ZIP files.

Based on machine learning models and special heuristics, the new anti-spam engine will have an improved ability to detect masked senders – no matter whether they are concealed in the header or body of the email. With all filtering mechanisms, only selected properties are extracted and hashed. The actual content of the email remains untouched. This ensures that strict data protection regulations and compliance guidelines are always met without fail.
