New timeline for national e-invoicing system in Poland

Following Poland’s decision to defer the introduction of its National Electronic Invoicing System (KSeF), originally slated for July 1, 2024, to an unspecified future date due to serious shortcomings, the Polish Ministry of Finance has now issued an update on the latest developments.

New timeline

According to the announcement, the ministry is now set to introduce the KSeF from February 1st, 2026 for companies with annual revenue exceeding 200 million Polish zloty (roughly €46 million).

For all other companies, electronic invoicing will become mandatory in Poland from April 1st, 2026.

The original schedule for implementing the KSeF was revised following an external technical audit. The review exposed a whole raft of technical irregularities, including poorly designed IT architecture and error-ridden project management. Based on the revelations, the Polish Ministry of Finance decided to redevelop the system architecture from scratch, in order to improve the dependability, security and functionality of the system.

The changes have also had an impact on the legislative process. The Ministry of Finance is now planning to amend the legislation in two phases. Firstly, the new date for the mandatory introduction will be stipulated, following which the details of the mandatory solution will be hammered out. More details regarding the technical specifications and required legislative amendments is due to be published over the coming months.
