What is Header Stripping?
At its core, Header Stripping is a configurable function that removes internal Received Headers and other related headers that may contain sensitive information such as IP addresses, server names, and more. These internal headers are often included in the email message as it passes through various servers. While this is standard for email routing, it can also inadvertently expose details about the network infrastructure or even the sender’s location.
With the Header Stripping feature enabled, this information is removed before the message is forwarded, ensuring a higher level of privacy and security for your emails.
Enabling Header Stripping is simple. By selecting the Remove Internal Headers option in the SMTP Concentrator’s settings, you can activate the feature and start benefiting from enhanced email privacy right away.
How it Works
Before the message is forwarded: All headers up until the X-Header are stripped from the email. This includes any internal Received headers that could potentially expose sensitive network information.
After the header stripping: The message is sent without these internal headers, ensuring that only the necessary routing information remains.
