Twoday uses Retarus' Transactional Email for Addo Sign

Twoday is a spin-off of the former consulting division of the Norwegian business software company Visma (cycling fans will recognize the name from Jonas Vingegaard's jersey). It uses Retarus Transactional Email for its digital signature solution, Addo Sign.

Initial Situation

Twoday has been fully independent since 2025 and operates primarily in Scandinavia and Lithuania; its headquarters are located in Copenhagen. With 2,300 employees across more than 25 locations, the company generated annual revenue of just over 390 million euros in 2025 from clients in the private and public sectors. Since 2015, Twoday’s software portfolio has included the digital signature solution Addo Sign, which supports eiDAS-compliant electronic signatures.

In the past, Twoday used Addo Sign to send email notifications (“You have new documents to sign”, “Here are your signed documents”, etc.) from Addo Sign, first a self-hosted Microsoft-based solution and later a U.S. provider. However, because Addo Sign is also used for government tasks in Denmark and Sweden, among other things, a purely European provider was needed.

Objective

So Twoday set out to find a new email delivery solution. It was essential that the solution’s services comply with the GDPR, particularly Article 9, and – like Addo Sign – be available as a SaaS offering. Twoday discovered Retarus through its own online research.

As a family-owned company headquartered in Germany, Retarus guarantees 100% GDPR-compliant processing of customer data in Europe within its own, auditable data centers. Retarus’ Information Security Management System (ISMS) is audited according to SOC2 Type II and certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 27001:2017.
Retarus’ services operate entirely without American hyperscalers, thereby meeting Twoday’s requirements and expectations regarding resilience and sovereignty.

We came to the conclusion that we need a purely European supplier. Turned out, Retarus was the best. Quality of Service, EU-based. We only use Retarus. You beat 'em all!

Special Challenges / Approach

The implementation went off “quickly and smoothly”. Following a brief technical exchange via email and the signing of the contract in May 2025, development at Twoday began immediately upon the contract being awarded. Thanks to the well-documented programming interfaces, Retarus Transactional Email was integrated into Addo Sign after about two months and went live at the end of July 2025.

The transition went smoothly and transparently for Addo Sign users and customers. In early 2026, due to increased use of the service, the initially set sending limit was raised quickly and without red tape.

Benefits and Advantages

Twoday can now confidently respond to customer inquiries with the assurance that email notifications from Addo Sign are routed through a European service provider. This factor is becoming increasingly important.

With Retarus Transactional Email, Twoday benefits from, among other things, top-tier delivery rates thanks to comprehensive reputation management, including support for SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, as well as CSA certification. Retarus also guarantees throughput/bandwidth for transactional messages via a Service Level Agreement (SLA).

Twoday administrations can monitor the service in real time via the web-based myEAS portal and now also use raw analysis data (“Observability Metrics”)  provided by Retarus for analytics and reporting with in-house platforms.

Twoday quickly and easily integrated Retarus Transactional Email into its last remaining dependency on U.S. providers.
Twoday is completely satisfied with the quality of service. In the future, the Retarus service could therefore be integrated into additional Twoday software products.
