We’re excited to share more on this topic, as promised, because the completely revamped Retarus Attachment Blocker is now available – with a substantial number of additional functions to provide more control, higher security and maximum flexibility.
Full control: Manage inbound and outbound emails centrally
One key enhancement in this updated version is the ability to manage rules for both inbound and outbound emails directly within the Retarus myEAS admin portal – from a single location, now featuring a clean, user-friendly design. This gives companies the opportunity to transparently implement their security guidelines – not only for blocking inbound threats, but also for preventing the outbound transmission of file types deemed sensitive or undesirable.
Specifying outbound rules in the Attachment Blocker improves compliance and supports the implementation of internal guidelines. Unintended data outflow can effectively be prevented, for instance, by blocking the possibility to share certain file types used in applications with purely internal purposes – file types containing sensitive information which should never be sent via email. The transmission of ZIP archives can also be blocked to prevent high volumes of data being sent out via email.
One particularly useful feature is the ability to configure outbound rules with a high degree of granularity – at domain, group or even individual user level. This enables specific departments, for instance, to continue sending certain document types, while their transmission is blocked for other parts of the company.
Support for new and additional file types
In addition to the new administration options, this version now supports and recognizes a wide range of new and additional file formats and properties. These changes substantially broaden the potential opportunities for deploying the Attachment Blocker.
New options for dealing with blocked emails
For inbound traffic, new configuration options add real value. Admins can now decide flexibly how to handle disallowed attachments. They can be deleted immediately, as before, or moved to the user’s quarantine. This gives companies full control over their inbound communication while ensuring that important content isn’t accidentally lost.
Transparent notifications with custom configuration
The notification function has also been revamped. In the latest version, the company’s administrators and the senders of blocked messages both benefit from clearer, more configurable, and more transparent notification options.
Increased security through granular roles and permissions management
Administration of the Attachment Blocker has been optimized to allow finely tuned assignment of roles and rights. It is now possible to specify with great granularity which roles have access to different configuration levels. This ensures critical security guidelines are met more reliably – a clear advantage for larger IT teams or multi-tenant organizations.
Beta version now available – official roll-out at the end of Q3
The new Attachment Blocker is now available as a beta version. Customers interested in early access can contact their regular Retarus support representative. Within Retarus myEAS, users can easily switch between the previous and new interfaces.
The official rollout to all users is scheduled for the end of the current quarter.
