Transparent down to the last detail: Retarus Email Security makes threat assessments easy to understand

To fully comprehend a decision, it’s often necessary to understand how it was achieved. This also holds true for IT security. With this in mind, we’re now enhancing Retarus Email Security with exciting new features that are gradually being rolled out to all customers.

The myEAS admin portal will subsequently provide more comprehensive, finely detailed information on spam and threat detection, allowing our customers’ administrators to not only see how we classify an email, but also to understand in greater detail why that decision was reached.

Control requires transparency

Retarus has always followed a clear guiding principle when it comes to securing the email channel – ensuring maximum control and transparency. When it comes to the information we use to assess an email, our customers should ideally have access to as much detail as possible.

In the past, myEAS already displayed the status of an email and the resulting classification, including the degree of probability that a message would be classified as spam or potentially harmful. Now, users are granted access to additional details contributing to the outcome. We make it visible which internal algorithms and elements contained in the message were factored into the classification.

Full transparency in the scoring process

From now on, along with a Total Score for each message, the system will also reveal how this score is calculated – based on the various threat detection engines and methods employed by Retarus. In this way, customers benefit from significantly deeper insight into the decision-making logic of Retarus Email Security. This is particularly valuable for support and SOC teams. In cases of false positives or false negatives, it allows them to better understand which rule sets triggered the alert and how the final decision was reached. This scoring insight also provides an important basis for subsequent analyses and communication with Retarus Support.

From the phishing email…

…to the finding details in myEAS.

Threat details clearly explained

In the future, the Threat Details feature will “translate” the numerical values resulting from technical analyses into human-readable, easily understandable language.

Depending on the email in question and available results, the information displayed will include, among other things, the following details:

  • the classification of the message, for instance Spam, Phishing, Scam, or Marketing;
  • an indication of findings from brand or logo detection;
  • specific insights gained from AI-based pattern recognition;
  • results of QR code and URL analysis;
  • case-specific classification for BEC emails; and
  • detailed descriptions of any other relevant analysis outcomes.

The URL phishing detection feature also explicitly identifies the link that triggered the alert.

Multiple data sources, engines, and algorithms distilled to a single result

A reliable email security solution shouldn’t depend on a single approach. That’s why Retarus combines a wide range of data sources, engines, and algorithms – including information gathered from content and URL analysis, authentication and sender evaluation, and AI-powered detection methods.

The enhanced details provided by myEAS make their interplay more transparent. This provides you with the basis you need to not only note decisions, but also to evaluate them in terms of content or technical aspects, document them, and analyze them in greater depth in conjunction with Retarus Support.

Further innovations in myEAS

URL rewriting can now also be disabled or activated for specific cases within the Time-of-Click Protection service.

In addition, enhanced anti-spam lists at profile and user level offer advanced options for configuring security settings for specific users or user groups.

Looking ahead: Even better analysis using tags

On top of this, the way results are displayed in myEAS is set to be improved even more in the near future. We’ll soon be introducing tags corresponding to the existing descriptions, which will make it easier to filter and search using Retarus Email Live Search and facilitate even more refined analysis and classification of threats.
