In recent months, it has been plain to see that reliable patient communication and dependable IT processes are crucial. It goes without saying, Retarus is proud to be recently chosen as the cloud services provider for two key healthcare projects in Germany and to be able to contribute to their success with essential communication services.
Coordination of the vaccination campaign: Communication via Retarus Transactional Email
Following the promising advances made in vaccine development, the spotlight is now on practical issues for healthcare services. How can the large-scale vaccination of the population with the new COVID vaccine be ensured within a short time frame? Behind the scenes, this issue is already being addressed by healthcare providers via ongoing IT projects. Retarus is excited to be participating in one of these key projects over the coming months. To coordinate vaccination appointments, it will be essential that huge volumes of automated messages can be reliably sent to those throughout Germany who are waiting for the vaccination. A service that is suitable for this critical task must be able to handle peak loads with extremely high transmission volumes, while also ensuring that emails are always reliably placed in their recipients’ inboxes – in other words, not get stranded in spam filters along the way. This is a particularly difficult challenge, especially for high-volume, automated transmission straight from applications.
Delivered to the inbox – not the spam folder
However, this is a challenge to which Retarus Transactional Email is perfectly suited. Wide-ranging Reputation Management and CSA certification ensure that even huge amounts of transactional emails end up exactly where they should. The processing and transmission takes place exclusively in local data centers and in accordance with Europe’s stringent data protection regulations. This was one of the deciding factors that led to Retarus being selected for the Germany-wide project to coordinate crucial vaccination efforts. Additionally, the public healthcare authorities appreciate having a partner which is headquartered in Germany, such as Retarus. In light of the ongoing Privacy Shield discussions in Europe, this also provides a clear advantage for the protection of sensitive patient data.
Central IT platform for electronic health records (EHR) sends emails via the Retarus infrastructure
Retarus has also recently won another critical project within the healthcare landscape. The project in question is one of the most groundbreaking in relation to German public healthcare policy, involving electronic health records (EHR). Beginning in 2021, statutory health insurance providers in Germany will be required to offer their insured persons such electronic patient files (ePA in German, short for “elektronische Patientenakte”). A large IT service provider, which operates one of the core platforms for this new digital service, was in need of a technology partner to reliably deliver all email messages to insured persons arising in connection with EHR.
Here, Retarus processes and delivers all email messages in compliance with data protection guidelines and regulations. From confirmation of user registration through notification of insured persons and doctors, the email communication is handled by Transactional Email, part of the high-performance, GDPR-compliant Secure Email Platform provided by Retarus. Several of the largest health insurers in Germany are already connected to this central IT platform with their EHR offerings, and this number is only set to grow.
