Retarus is no Phisherman’s Friend

We are pushing ahead as announced with the continued development of Retarus E-Mail Security with the introduction of a dedicated phishing filter.

This is not to say that E-Mail Security hasn’t already been doing a very reliable job of filtering out phishing e-mails, but to date the task has been carried out by the AntiSpam-Filter and the two to four virus scanners offered by the service. When the AntiSpam filter pounced, messages rated highly likely to be spam landed up in quarantine, while phishing mails discovered by the virus scanner were deleted without delay, as is customary.

In the coming weeks, Retarus E-Mail Security will now be augmented with a dedicated phishing filter, which will be powered by two databases from specialized providers. The new filter searches through incoming e-mails in real time, specifically targeting phishing. The admin can set in the EAS portal, whether messages that have been identified as “phishing” should be quarantined or rather deleted immediately.

The phishing filter is provided free of charge and further minimizes the risk faced by Retarus customers of an employee inadvertently falling for phishing links and disclosing sensitive (access) details.

In the next step the tagging of links in e-mails will also be built into Retarus Patient Zero Detection®. Then it will not only be possible to retroactively identify the recipients of e-mails infected with viruses, but also those who have been sent previously unrecognized phishing e-mails, reducing the risk of harm substantially and simplifying IT forensics significantly.
