How Retarus manages STOP SMS

How Retarus manages STOP SMS

In countries such as France, Belgium or the USA and Canada, the recipients of marketing SMS must be given the opportunity to opt out of future messaging campaigns.

This opt out is usually executed by means of an SMS reply containing the keyword “STOP”. In the first message sent to the recipient, the sender has to explicitly point out this option – some carriers will not even deliver such messages if they don’t include the required advice. If the sender continues to disregard the need to provide a clear opportunity to unsubscribe, harmful penalties may result.

Retarus SMS Cloud Services with STOP SMS blacklist option

In this regard, customers of Retarus SMS Cloud Services are lucky to find themselves on the safe side. As soon as they activate the option “SMS Blacklist” for an inbound number (long or short code), each sender of a STOP SMS is placed on a blacklist, which is then taken into consideration for future transmissions or campaigns. This ensures that communications stay on the right side of the law. The blacklist, which is generated automatically, can be viewed any time in the EAS administration portal and can be edited as required.

In addition to automatic blacklisting, Retarus’ customers can also set up other tasks for incoming STOP SMS. This includes, for instance, forwarding the messages to applications or email addresses, and also transferring the data into a list in the generic CSV format for the customer to process further. It is moreover possible to set up automatic response, which confirms to the sender that the instruction to opt out (i.e. STOP SMS) has been received.

Retarus’ Cloud SMS Services facilitate quick, convenient transmission and receipt of SMS messages via email clients, Microsoft Exchange environments and SAP systems, as well as host-based and web applications. They offer a wide and varied range of features and options. Find out more here or straight from your local Retarus contact person.
